Euro 2020 Results: Belgium Beat Finland 2-0

The Belgian national team beat Finland 2-0 in the final match of Group B Euro 2020 (Euro 2021) at the Saint Petersburg Stadium, Russia, Tuesday (22/6) early morning WIB.
Belgium, which has made sure to qualify for the round of 16, continues to play with some of its best players. The trio of Romelu Lukaku, Kevin De Bruyne, and Eden Hazard are mainstays on the front lines.

Belgium looked comfortable dominating possession since the first half began. Through Hazard’s speed and De Bruyne’s vision of play, Belgium continued to put pressure on the Finnish defense. However, the incessant attack did not bear fruit because of the discipline of the Finnish defense in closing Belgium’s chances in the first half.

Belgium, who continued to press, finally broke into Finland’s goal in the 66th minute. Lukaku calmly broke into Hradecky’s goal after receiving De Bruyne’s through ball.
However, Lukaku’s goal was disallowed by the referee because the Inter Milan bomber was considered to have been in an offside position. Belgium’s awaited goal was finally created in the 75th minute. Hradecky, who performed brilliantly in goal, made a mistake by scoring an own goal.
Hradecky wrongly anticipated Thomas Vermaelen’s header which took advantage of De Bruyne’s corner. Hradecky tried to catch the ball from Vermaelen’s header that hit the post but instead went into his own net. Belgium increased the score to 2-0 in the 82nd minute. De Bruyne’s short pass was caught by Lukaku and immediately turned around to release a shot from inside the penalty box that rattled the Finnish goal.
In the remaining time of the second half, Finland tried to respond by launching an attack back. However, the effort was fruitless until the referee blew the whistle signaling the end of the match. Belgium closed the game with a 2-0 win over Finland. This result knocked Finland out of the competition to qualify for the last 16 of Euro 2020.
