Exploring Jakarta doesn’t always mean digging into your wallet. For travelers eager to see the capital without spending, there’s a special ride that takes you around the city for free. The Jakarta Provincial Government has been running the TransJakarta Tourist Bus since 2013, first launched by then-Governor Joko Widodo. This free service welcomes both visitors and residents who want to discover the city’s landmarks in comfort.
The TransJakarta Tourist Bus will run every Tuesday to Sunday, operating from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with four different routes to choose from:
The BW1 City History route departs from Juanda Istiqlal Bus Stop and makes stops at Bank Indonesia Museum and Kali Besar Barat 1.
The BW2 Monas Explorer starts at IRTI Monas, passing the National Library, DPRD Jakarta, Tugu Tani 2, Gambir 2, Juanda Istiqlal, and three different Monas stops.
The BW4 Skyscraper Route also departs from IRTI Monas–Monas 3. Highlights include City Hall, MH Thamrin, Wisma Nusantara, Dukuh Atas, Karet Sudirman, Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan Roundabout, FX Sudirman, Plaza Indonesia, National Museum, Pecenongan, Pasar Baru, and back to Monas.
The BW9 Old Town–Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) line begins at Kali Besar Barat 1 or PIK Avenue. Stops include Buddha Tzu Chi, Gold Coast, Food Street, Pantjoran PIK 2, Melody Golf, Pantai Maju, Fresh Market PIK, and more before looping back to PIK Avenue.
For those who only want to ride and enjoy the view without getting off, buses circle back to City Hall or IRTI Monas stops.

According to Detik Travel, hopping on this bus is simple if you follow a few steps. First, check the schedule and routes before leaving. Second, remember that buses only stop at official points like Juanda Istiqlal, Kali Besar Barat, and IRTI Monas. Third, passengers must tap in and out using an electronic money card, though the system won’t deduct any balance. Finally, once on board, you’re free to choose any available seat.
