Indonesia is quietly holding its place among Asia’s top luxury hotels. In 2026, two resorts from the country secured spots on one of the region’s most respected travel lists.
The recognition comes from The Gold List 2026, an annual selection curated by international travel editors and published by Condé Nast Traveler. The list highlights standout hotels, resorts, and destinations across the world. It focuses on places that go beyond facilities. Experience, service, and location all matter here.
One of the Indonesian entries is Buahan, a Banyan Tree Escape. Tucked inside a forested area in Ubud, the resort offers something different from the usual luxury stay. It follows a “no walls, no doors” concept. The villas are fully open, designed to blend directly with the surrounding nature.

Each villa faces a green valley and a view of seven mountain peaks across Bali. The experience is built around slow living. Guests can take part in meditation sessions, Balinese rituals, and guided hikes. Food is also part of the journey, with a farm-to-table concept using local ingredients.
The second property is Cempedak Island Resort. Located in the Riau Islands, this resort sits on a small private island. White sand beaches and clear waters surround it.
The villas are built from bamboo. The design is eco-friendly and blends into the tropical forest. The atmosphere feels private and untouched. Guests can spend time snorkeling, paddle boarding, or doing yoga by the sea. There are also spa treatments with direct ocean views.
Both resorts reflect a similar idea. Nature is not just a backdrop. It becomes part of the stay itself.
