The Minister of Public Works and Public Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono, has set a target for the completion of infrastructure and supporting facilities for the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo and Tana Mori, East Nusa Tenggara province (NTT) by early May.

The conference is set to take place from May 9-11, and Basuki stated that the progress of the construction work for the supporting facilities in the Labuan Bajo area was at 73 percent, while the progress of work in the Tana Mori Special Economic Zone (KEK) was at 94 percent.

According to Basuki, “the target is to complete all work at the beginning of May 2023, before the ASEAN Summit takes place.”

The ongoing work in the Labuan Bajo area includes the construction of the West Manggarai Police Headquarters, the arrangement of Promenade Marina Labuan Bajo Zone 4, and the improvement of the landscape quality of the Labuan Bajo road corridor. Additionally, the parking area for the West Manggarai Regent’s VVIP office will be arranged, along with the arrangement of the road and sidewalk of Sp. Binongko – Sp.Sylvia (Jl. Waecicu), and the arrangement of the median of Jalan Yohanes Sehadun (in front of Komodo Airport).

Meanwhile, the construction work being done in the Tana Mori KEK includes the construction of the Roundabout Beach Club, the Shelter Dermaga, the installation of geotextiles on the Tana Mori corridor road, the arrangement of the entrance roundabout of the ITDC area, and the reinforcement of slopes and stabilization of plants on the Labuan Bajo – Tana Mori road section that was inaugurated by President Jokowi on March 14, 2023.

The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing is also building the Anak Munting Reservoir between Labuan Bajo and Tana Mori in Warloka Village, Komodo District.

The reservoir has a capacity of 159,000 cubic meters and a flooded area of 4.5 hectares, with the main function of conservation and support for tourism in the Labuan Bajo Super Priority Tourism Destination (DPSP) in preparation for the ASEAN Summit.

Basuki instructed that all construction work in Labuan Bajo and Tana Mori be carried out with the best methods and quality. He emphasized that “the quality of the infrastructure must be maintained and improved in accordance with the international event standards. Quality work must be the number one priority, especially with regards to road infrastructure, the quality of the asphalt must be improved.”

In addition, Basuki emphasized the importance of clean and neat work, focusing on aesthetics and greening in each venue area and the ASEAN Summit access road corridor, to ensure that the environment is beautiful and not dry.

The improvement of supporting facilities in the Labuan Bajo – Tana Mori area is being carried out by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing through the NTT Regional Infrastructure Development Agency (BPPW) under the Directorate General of Cipta Karya and the National Road Implementation Agency (BPJN) under the Directorate General of Bina Marga.

The improvement of facilities through the arrangement of areas and road corridors aims to support security and comfort during the ASEAN Summit. The successful completion of these infrastructure projects is essential to the success of the ASEAN Summit, which is an important international event.
