Bali, a favorite destination for international events, is once again ready to welcome global guests. The island will host the 1st Indonesia Quality Tourism Conference (IQTC) in Sanur, Denpasar, on August 29-30, 2024.
This conference is a milestone in achieving the vision set by ASEAN leaders over 20 years ago. Back in 2001, the ASEAN Agreement on Tourism was established, aiming to promote quality tourism across the region. However, it has taken more than two decades for this vision to begin materializing.
“We’ve waited over 20 years for this. Now, Indonesia is leading the way,” said Odo RM Manuhutu, Deputy for Tourism and Creative Economy Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment. Odo shared this during a program at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy on August 19, 2024.
Odo emphasized that 1st Indonesia Quality Tourism Conference will play a key role in boosting the quality of tourism destinations in Indonesia, particularly in Bali and the five Super Priority Destinations (DSP). The conference aims to create a roadmap for implementing quality tourism standards across ASEAN, including contributions from China, South Korea, and Japan.
Indonesia has been actively promoting quality tourism, spearheaded by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf), the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), and Bank Indonesia (BI). Their focus is on four main pillars: improving infrastructure, managing sustainable tourism, highlighting unique destinations, and providing high-value tourism services.
“IQTC is expected to attract around 400 participants from various sectors,” Odo added, highlighting the collaborative nature of the event. The conference is a joint effort between Kemenparekraf, Bappenas, BI, and other key stakeholders.

Over the two days, the conference will cover various topics on quality tourism. These include sustainable practices, regional tourism strategies, and the application of quality standards. The discussions will be spread across six plenary sessions and 16 thematic sessions, featuring over 20 global speakers.
Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno expressed strong support for the conference. He sees it as a crucial step in advancing sustainable tourism in Indonesia.
Hosting the IQTC in Bali is a significant move toward transforming Indonesia’s tourism sector. “The timing is perfect. We’re ready to implement a more transformative and quality-focused approach to tourism,” Sandiaga said on August 21, 2024.
The conference, themed “Building Quality Tourism Experiences Through Sustainable Practices and Collaborative Innovation,” is a collaboration between Kemenparekraf, Bappenas, BI, and the World Economic Forum (WEF).
