Imagine leaving your car just outside the city, hopping onto public transport, and skipping the daily traffic jam. This is the vision the Jakarta Provincial Government is pushing forward by expanding park and ride facilities and building new parking hubs in buffer zones around the capital.
Currently, Jakarta has seven park and ride spots spread across Lebak Bulus, Ragunan, Pinang Ranti Terminal, Kampung Rambutan Terminal, Pulogebang Terminal, PGC Cililitan, and Kalideres. Soon, Pemprov DKI Jakarta plans to add more, including a new hub in the busy area of Cawang.
“Transportation in Jakarta is dedicated to all areas around the city. In the future, we will establish park and ride facilities and parking hubs in Jakarta’s buffer zones,” explained Suharini Eliawati, Assistant for Economic and Financial Affairs to the Regional Secretary of DKI Jakarta, during a discussion in Jakarta on Tuesday (July 15).
Speaking at the event themed “Exploring the Potential of Green Sukuk for Financing Environmentally Friendly Transportation Infrastructure in DKI Jakarta,” Suharini pointed out how these parking hubs could change commuter habits. By parking their cars closer to home and taking public transport for the rest of the journey, residents could help reduce congestion in central Jakarta.
Interestingly, all the income from these parking hubs won’t just stop at covering costs. “All revenue from parking fees will be reinvested into improving transport and roads,” she added.
Suharini also highlighted efforts to build a habit of using public transport. One concrete step is already in place: every Wednesday, all civil servants (ASN) are required to commute and travel by public transportation.

“If people still choose to use private vehicles, they won’t need to drive all the way into the city. It will be enough to leave them at parking hubs near their homes,” she said.
Through these measures, Pemprov DKI Jakarta hopes to create a lasting shift in commuter culture—one that supports a cleaner, less congested capital while keeping residents connected to the city center.
