Jakarta will host the International Publisher Association (IPA) Congress 2022. Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, assesses the assessment of the appointment of Jakarta to host the 33rd IPA as the right decision.

Anies said that he also has formed a team called Jakarta Kota Buku. He said the event was useful for improving the quality of literacy as well as the publication industry.

“We are working with them to improve the quality of literacy as well as to improve the climate of the publication industry. These two things are very closely related,” he said.

“Citizens’ literacy is very dependent on the books they read. Publishers can publish quality books because they are supported by great conditions, such as democratic values, freedom of speech, and an equitable economy. The main target of this activity is to increase of the quality of Jakarta citizens. This will be a great chance for this city to progress,” he said.

In addition, said Anies, the Jakarta Provincial Government is improving infrastructure to support people who love reading. He said the provincial government would also make policies in order to make people love reading.

“We also make improvements to existing systems such as mobile libraries, policies that support the culture of fondness for reading, and other various facilities which are expected to continue to raise the reading interest and the growth of the industry, especially since this industry is one of the industries that greatly contributes to the intellectual progress of the Indonesian nation, “said Anies.
