The government through the Ministry of Transportation has issued a new regulation regarding online motorcycle taxi (Ojek) tariff adjustments. This adjustment resulted in a narrow gap between online ojek and taxi fares.

The regulation is contained in the Decree of the Minister of Transportation Number KP 564 of 2022 concerning Guidelines for Calculation of Service Fees for the Use of Motorcycles Used for the Interest of the Community carried out by Application on August 4, 2022.

The regulation is a temporary guideline for setting the upper and lower fare limits for online motorcycle taxis. In KM Number KP 564 of 2022, the Ministry of Transportation has evaluated the latest tariff limits that apply to online motorcycle taxis.

“In addition, the zoning system still applies 3 zonings,” said Director General of Land Transportation, Hendro Sugiatno, in his statement, quoted Thursday (11/8/2022).

Hendro explained that the cost components are direct and indirect costs. Direct costs are those incurred by the driver and include those incurred by them. While the indirect costs are the highest application usage rental fees of 20%.

“The service fee listed in the attachment is a service fee that has received an indirect fee discount in the form of application user rental fees. The application company applies a new lower limit service fee, an upper limit service fee, and a minimum service fee based on the zoning system no later than 10 calendar days since this ministerial decision was made,” he explained.

He further said that the service fee will be evaluated for a maximum of 1 year or if there are changes that affect business continuity and make the basic costs change by more than 20%.

Transportation issuer PT Blue Bird Tbk (BIRD) also commented on the increase in online ojek fares. Blue Bird President Director Sigit Djokosoetono views the impact of the increase in online motorcycle taxi fares as good news for the company because the gap between online motorcycle taxis and taxi fares is thin. However, online motorcycle taxis and taxis have their respective market shares.

“We see the impact will be good because if the difference is less between two wheels and four wheels, it’s better for four wheels, especially in rainy conditions, sorry for online ojek and also passengers,” said Sigit, quoted Thursday (11/8/2022).

However, his party has no plans to increase taxi fares. He said that the tariff issue at Blue Bird is paying attention to the demand side, not because others have gone up.

“We already have the range and can adjust it to the market. In this case, we don’t feel the need to be reactive to the increase in online ojek tariffs,” he explained.

According to him, this actually makes Blue Bird have to maintain tariffs by paying attention to supply and demand. Moreover, according to him, the market is also different between Bluebird and online ojek.

Sigit said that the regular Blue Bird taxi fare is IDR 4,600 per kilometer and the door opening fare is IDR 6,500.
