As the highly anticipated Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Train (KCJB) project edges closer to its operational launch in August 2023, the testing and commissioning phase continues to make remarkable progress, unveiling new heights of innovation and efficiency.

To ensure the seamless integration of cutting-edge technology and flawless operations, the speed of the train during testing has been significantly elevated from its initial 60 km/h to an impressive 180 km/h, thanks to the utilization of the state-of-the-art Comprehensive Inspection Train (CIT).

Under the leadership of Dwiyana Slamet Riyadi, the esteemed Director of PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC), meticulous preparations preceding the testing and commissioning phase have been meticulously executed, paving the way for this groundbreaking increase in trial speed.

Dwiyana expressed his satisfaction, stating, “The prior assessments of KCJB’s infrastructure readiness have been executed seamlessly. Based on our comprehensive evaluations, we are thrilled to announce that as of today, the high-speed train’s maximum speed during trials has been raised to an impressive 180 km/h.”

Evaluating the results obtained from the testing and commissioning activities, it has been observed that the travel time between the Halim Station and Tegalluar Station now stands at approximately 50 minutes.

However, this is just the beginning, as the project envisions even greater milestones, with the ultimate goal of achieving an operational peak speed of 350 km/h, and potentially reaching an extraordinary technical speed of up to 385 km/h.

As the project progresses, the continuous enhancement of the Comprehensive Inspection Train (CIT) operation remains a top priority. The CIT’s primary focus lies in testing and ensuring the flawless integration of the entire infrastructure and facility systems. Every aspect is meticulously examined, ensuring the optimal functionality and safety of the KCJB, as it traverses the tracks at high velocities.

Delving into the technical aspects, Dwiyana elaborated on the composition and functionalities of the KCJB inspection train. Comprising eight distinct cars, each vehicle serves a specific purpose. Car 1 is dedicated to track testing, while car 2 scrutinizes the signaling and communication systems.

Car 3 plays a crucial role in assessing the overhead contact system (OCS), ensuring its seamless functionality. Cars 4 and 7 are designated as spacious work areas, facilitating vital operations.

Car 5 is meticulously designed to serve as a restoration area, ensuring passenger comfort and amenities. Car 6 acts as a versatile meeting space, fostering effective collaboration among project stakeholders, and finally, car 8 is solely dedicated to signal and wheel-rail integration checks.

With the testing and commissioning phase in full swing, KCIC, together with its esteemed team of contractors and independent consultants, is diligently working to ensure the seamless integration of all systems and readiness for operation.

Dwiyana emphasized, “Our objective is to incrementally increase the train’s speed while meticulously assessing and fine-tuning every aspect of the infrastructure and facilities we have built, guaranteeing an unmatched high-speed travel experience for our passengers.”

Adding to the positive sentiment surrounding this momentous project, Kartika Wirjoatmodjo, the Deputy Minister II of the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, expressed great satisfaction with the ongoing testing phase, affirming the smooth and efficient performance of all systems, including the trains, tracks, signaling, electrical systems, and more. Such successful progress further solidifies the confidence and optimism surrounding the KCJB project.

The advent of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Train heralds the dawn of a new era in transportation, positioning the region as a vibrant economic hub with improved connectivity and accessibility.

Furthermore, the seamless integration of KCJB with the Jabodebek Light Rail Transit (LRT) system augments the project’s significance, creating an unparalleled network that optimizes commuting convenience for passengers across the Jakarta-Bandung corridor and beyond.
