Twitter said it would launch a new way for users to apply for account verification in 2021. Twitter said users would be able to independently apply for account verification.

“We are excited to be able to re-launch the verification application for the public in 2021 through a new application process, which will be available independently,” Twitter said in the official blog, Friday (18/12).

Twitter announced that the verification application will be available independently on the Account Settings page on the web and application. The company said, the process includes asking applicants to select their verified status category and confirming identity through links and other supporting material.

Furthermore, Twitter said it will use an automated and human review process to ensure careful and timely app reviews.

Twitter also admits that it will give users the option to provide demographic information after completing the new verification application so that we can measure and ensure a fair system of the verification process.

“We will provide more detailed information about the application process in the near future,” Twitter said.

On the other hand, Twitter explains verification is just one way to help users find out who they are interacting with on Twitter. Twitter realizes that it is not easy to evaluate the authenticity of accounts on the internet and find out who the users are interacting with.

Therefore, Twitter emphasizes that information such as bio, Tweet content, similarities of the people who are followed on Twitter, to the profile is very important.

“This is why we started to label profiles of political candidates, government accounts and state-affiliated media,” Twitter said.
