Jakarta residents can now watch the Kecak Dance without flying to Bali. For those longing to experience the magic of Bali’s famous Kecak dance without leaving Jakarta, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) offers the perfect solution. TMII now hosts regular Kecak dance performances once a month, giving visitors a chance to watch this cultural spectacle for free every weekend, on either Saturday or Sunday.
A big change came in April 2025, when the location of the Kecak dance stage was officially moved. Previously held at the JawaDhipa Amphitheater near the West Java Pavilion, the performance now takes place at the newly built Panggung Budaya Amphitheater.
“The Kecak dance has only been performed twice at the Panggung Budaya Amphitheater because the stage was just completed,” explained TMII’s Public Relations officer, Mayang, quoted by Kompas on Saturday (April 26, 2025).
The Panggung Budaya Amphitheater was specially designed to cater to the growing enthusiasm for Kecak performances. At the old location, limited seating often left many visitors standing to catch a glimpse. The new venue offers a much larger capacity, ensuring more people can enjoy the show comfortably.
Located at the eastern end of Archipelago Lake, the open-air Panggung Budaya Amphitheater offers stunning views of the water, adding to the magical atmosphere of the dance. Visitors can either hop on the angling shuttle bus or enjoy a scenic walk along the lakeside to reach the venue.

The amphitheater is equipped with a semi-circular grandstand that can accommodate up to 1,000 spectators. If the seating area fills up, additional visitors are welcome to stand behind the grandstand to watch the show.
For those arriving by car, motorcycle, or bicycle, TMII requires all vehicles to be parked at the centralized parking building. After parking, visitors must walk to TMII’s main entrance and then board the free angling shuttle bus.
To catch the shuttle, visitors should line up at one of the two available bus stops at the main gate — either the north or south route. It’s important to wait at the south bus stop, then get off at the Indonesian Children’s Palace (Istana Anak-Anak Indonesia) stop. The new Kecak dance stage is located directly across from this landmark.
This move not only enhances the visitor experience but also brings the charm of Bali’s cultural heritage closer to Jakarta’s bustling urban crowd.
