Indonesia’s commitment to advancing public transportation infrastructure has seen significant strides. Recently, the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) reported the completion of 45 national strategic projects (PSN) over President Joko Widodo’s two terms. These projects, spanning from 2016 to 2024, mark a milestone in the country’s infrastructural development.

Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi highlighted the breadth of these initiatives, which encompass maritime, aviation, railway, and land sectors. Notable projects include the Mutiara Sis Al-Jufri Airport, Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Rail, Adi Sumarmo Airport Rail Access, Labuan Bajo Port, South Sumatra LRT, Makassar-Parepare Railway, and Komodo Airport.

“President Joko Widodo’s vision for PSN has been systematically executed. In the past decade, we have completed 45 PSNs across ports, aviation, railways, and land,” Budi Karya stated in Jakarta on Wednesday (31/7/2024).

The past decade of transportation infrastructure development faced numerous challenges, from geopolitical tensions to the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite these hurdles, Budi Karya emphasized that his ministry successfully delivered the PSNs assigned to them.

Budi Karya credited President Joko Widodo’s leadership for overcoming these obstacles, resulting in the successful completion of these strategic projects, which have positively impacted people’s lives.

“The President tasked us to ensure that our infrastructure projects are not merely constructions but are meaningful and beneficial to society,” he added.

Over the last ten years, Kemenhub has undertaken various transportation infrastructure projects. In the land sector, they have constructed numerous ferry ports, developed urban public transportation, and more. Budi Karya cited the construction of 12 ferry ports on Lake Toba, aligning with the government’s initiative to make Lake Toba a priority tourist destination.

In the maritime sector, the government has built hundreds of ports, including international-standard facilities. This aligns with President Joko Widodo’s directive to reduce cargo ship transportation and unloading times, or dwelling time.

Moreover, the Ministry has implemented the sea toll program to enhance connectivity and reduce price disparities for essential goods between Western and Eastern Indonesia. “This sea toll program is also supported by subsidies, especially for Eastern Indonesia,” he explained.

In aviation, the Ministry continues to improve on-time performance (OTP) and connectivity by building airports in disadvantaged, remote, outermost, and border areas (3TP).

Kemenhub remains committed to developing transportation infrastructure that significantly impacts the Indonesian populace, ensuring every project contributes to the nation’s growth and prosperity.
