The earthquake shook Cianjur again on Tuesday (24/1) in the early morning. Unmitigated, the residents felt three shocks in a short time. This earthquake is the umpteenth time after a severe shock hit Cianjur on 21 November 2022.
It is known that this earthquake was felt by residents of Cianjur on Tuesday (24/1/2023) at 02.45 West Indonesian Time (WIB). The earthquake had a magnitude of 4.3 and was centered 7 km northwest of Cianjur Regency, West Java.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded three aftershocks within one hour.
The first earthquake occurred at 02.45 WIB with a magnitude of 4.3. While the second earthquake occurred at 03.08 WIB with a magnitude of 2.0 and the third earthquake occurred at 03.28 WIB with a magnitude of 2.1.
The BMKG noted that today’s Cianjur earthquake was felt in some areas, one of which is Jakarta. The following is a list of areas that felt the M 4.3 Cianjur earthquake.
BMKG was analyzed to determine the cause of the M 4.3 Cianjur earthquake. As a result, the earthquake was caused by the activity of the Cugenang Fault.
“Taking into account the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurred was a type of shallow earthquake due to the activity of the Cugenang Fault,” said the Head of BMKG Region II Tangerang Hartanto, in his statement, Tuesday (24/1/2023).
Meanwhile, several residents were injured in the earthquake. Most of them were crushed by the ruins of houses damaged by the violent shaking.
