Indonesia’s tourism revival is showing no signs of slowing down, with both foreign and domestic travelers driving impressive growth in 2025. The Ministry of Tourism reported that by July this year, foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia had reached 8.5 million, reflecting a 10 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana highlighted this surge as proof of a remarkable rebound in the sector. “In 2024, we welcomed 13.9 million foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia, an increase of 19 percent from the year before. Meanwhile, up to July 2025, we have already recorded 8.5 million, growing 10 percent from the same period last year,” she said during her remarks at the graduation ceremony of Makassar Tourism Polytechnic (Poltekpar) on Saturday, September 20.
The rise in numbers is not limited to international tourists. Domestic travel has also expanded significantly, underscoring the strength of Indonesia’s tourism momentum. In 2024, domestic travelers made more than 1 billion trips across the archipelago. By July 2025, that figure had jumped by 19.25 percent compared with the same months in 2024.
Widiyanti emphasized that while these numbers represent an achievement, they also bring greater responsibility. “This growth is both an opportunity and a mandate. The future of tourism is not only about how many people visit, but about creating meaningful experiences, preserving nature and culture, and ensuring that the benefits flow back to local communities,” she stressed.

She further underlined the need for high-quality human resources to sustain and build upon this momentum. According to her, Indonesia’s tourism sector requires professionals who are skilled, adaptable, and globally competitive.
With international arrivals climbing steadily and domestic travel on the rise, Indonesia’s tourism industry is expected to continue strengthening its role as one of the key drivers of the national economy.
