Prayers for Turkey! A powerful 7.9 M earthquake shook Turkey on Monday (6/2). The death toll is reported to be increasing. Recently, the local government reported that the earthquake killed at least 3,832 people. This earthquake even caused death in Syria.
The earthquake had its epicenter in Kahramanmaras Province, approximately 600 km southeast of Ankara. Then, there were two aftershocks measuring M6.4 and M6.5 in Gaziantep Province, located 700 km southeast of Ankara.
The biggest aftershock was recorded at 13.24 local time with a magnitude of around M7.5.
Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay said, of the thousands of reported deaths, around 2,379 people were found in Turkey. Meanwhile, 1,444 other cases of death in Syria.
The increase in the number of victims also occurred in cases of injuries. According to the latest reports, the number of injured rose to 14,483 in Turkey and 3,532 across Syria.
This great earthquake was touted as the worst earthquake to hit the country since 1939. It is estimated that the number of victims will increase because thousands of buildings have collapsed, and there are still many missing people who have not been found.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that this earthquake was the biggest disaster that Turkey has experienced in the last century after the Erzincan earthquake in 1939.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian people also expressed their deep sorrow regarding the disaster through social media.
The community will also assist the Dompet Dhuafa philanthropic organization. They will send aid to the Turkish people who were affected by the earthquake.
“We, along with the people of Indonesia, offer our deepest condolences to the people of Turkey, especially those affected by the M7.4 earthquake. As a humanitarian agency, we will try to send aid to the affected Turkish people,” said Dompet Dhuafa’s Director of Communication & Technology, Prima Hadi Putra. in a written statement in Jakarta, Monday.
Dompet Dhuafa through the Disaster Management Center (DMC) unit, said, is working on handling earthquake emergency response assistance in Turkey and Syria.
Chief Executive of DMC Dompet Dhuafa, Haryo Mojopahit said that his party was contacting local partners and volunteers at the site.
