The boundaries of tourism and technology in Indonesia are being reshaped with the unveiling of an innovative AI-driven museum experience. The recently launched CAVE AI Museum of Historical Time Travel (LOTUS) at Cirebon’s Kasepuhan Palace lets visitors immerse themselves in the past through an advanced virtual experience, bringing historical moments vividly to life.
Utilizing CAVE Automatic Virtual Environment technology, this museum’s virtual “time tunnel” draws tourists into a dynamic historical journey where AI revives key events from Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage.
“Cirebon’s potential for cultural and natural tourism is immense, but standing still is not an option. Our competitors are already moving fast by harnessing information technology,” said Hariyanto, Deputy of Destination and Infrastructure Development at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf).
The selection of Kasepuhan Palace as a pilot project for AI integration into heritage tourism aligns with the goal of making heritage sites more interactive and engaging for modern visitors, particularly younger generations. Prince Patih of Kasepuhan Palace, Muhammad Nusantara, expressed optimism, hoping the CAVE AI LOTUS Museum would become a valuable educational tool for the public.
Adding to the significance, Sri Utari Widyastuti, Director of Destination Development at Kemenparekraf, highlighted the museum’s role in creating sustainable tourism appeal for the palace.
“This CAVE AI Museum is crucial because Kasepuhan Palace holds incredible cultural value. Presenting it with technology makes it even more attractive to tourists,” she said.

With AI technology, the experience dives beyond traditional exhibits, encouraging visitors to gain a richer appreciation of Indonesia’s history. The CAVE AI LOTUS Museum at Kasepuhan Palace is expected to set a precedent, inspiring similar projects across other Indonesian palaces to preserve and promote culture through modern tech.
Through a blend of immersive technology and historical value, this museum offers visitors a fresh perspective on local culture that is both engaging and interactive. According to Kemenparekraf, the initiative marks another step in their mission to elevate Indonesia’s cultural tourism by incorporating cutting-edge AI tools. For tourists, the museum experience is an invitation to explore Cirebon’s history like never before.
