Wiku Adisasmito, as the spokesman for the Covid-19 handling task force, explained that positive cases of Covid-19 transmission had increased by 4,331 cases. This means that this number has increased five times from the last 3 weeks, from 1,123 to 5,454 cases.

Although the transmission rate increased dramatically, fortunately, this was not followed by a high death rate, only a positive number.

Wiku explained on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel, Thursday (20/1/22), “This week, there were 8,605 active cases, an increase of more than 3,000 compared to last week’s 5,494 cases,”

He also added that the increase in the transmission rate was caused by several factors, such as local transmission and overseas travel. However, most cases were recorded due to local transmission.

As of January 15, 2022, local transmission was recorded as much as 63 percent contributing to the number of Covid-19 cases. Likewise, foreign travel agents also recorded the cause of the increase in positive numbers, but not as much as local transmissions.

Wiku explained that the key to controlling the transmission of this virus was in 2 ways, namely strengthening the arrival gate and controlling local transmission. This must be done as soon as possible and consistently in order to control the number of Covid-19 transmissions.
