The construction of the Presidential Office in Indonesia’s new capital, Nusantara (IKN), is making significant progress and is expected to be completed by August 2024. This ambitious project, which began in November 2022, is already 71.8% complete, promising a grand and luxurious structure that will serve as the centerpiece of the new capital.

“The construction of the presidential office building has been carried out by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) since November 2022, and the progress has now reached 71.8%,” explained Basuki Hadimuljono, the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), in an official statement on Friday, June 7, 2024.

The project is being executed by PT PP – Wika KSO, with a budget allocation of IDR 1.56 trillion from the state budget (APBN). This significant investment underscores the government’s commitment to making IKN a functional and modern capital city.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has previously expressed his readiness to relocate and start working in IKN by July 2024. This announcement followed his inspection of the site, which is being prepared for the 79th Independence Day ceremony of the Republic of Indonesia, scheduled to be held in IKN on August 17, 2024.

Jokowi noted that the construction of the Presidential Office is in its final stages, with current efforts focused on the installation of the piping system. “Yesterday, we inaugurated the Sepaku Semoi Dam. Now, we are just waiting for the pump to lift the water, which will then be distributed to the buildings and houses in IKN,” said Jokowi.

The Sepaku Semoi Dam is a critical infrastructure project that will support the new capital by providing raw water. The dam, which has a capacity of 2,000 liters per second for the IKN area and 500 liters per second for Balikpapan, was completed in two years at a cost of approximately IDR 636 billion.

This new dam will play a vital role in ensuring a reliable water supply for both residential and commercial needs in the new capital. The government’s efforts to enhance infrastructure in IKN highlight their determination to make Nusantara a thriving and sustainable city.

As the construction of the Presidential Office nears completion, it symbolizes a significant milestone in the development of IKN. The new capital is not only expected to alleviate the pressure on Jakarta but also to represent a modern, well-planned urban center that reflects Indonesia’s progress and ambitions.

With the government’s continued focus on infrastructure development and urban planning, IKN is set to become a model city that combines advanced technology with sustainable living. The successful completion of the Presidential Office will mark a crucial step towards realizing this vision.

In summary, the rapid progress in constructing the Presidential Office in Nusantara, combined with the recent inauguration of the Sepaku Semoi Dam, reflects the government’s commitment to developing a functional and modern new capital.

These efforts are aimed at ensuring that Nusantara becomes a thriving, sustainable city that can effectively support Indonesia’s growing population and economic needs.
