Telkom Will Launch Another Satellite Worth Rp. 3.8 Trillion

In order to increase the national satellite capacity, PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. (TLKM) continues to develop its subsidiary business in the satellite sector, PT Telkom Satellite Indonesia (Telkomsat).

Telkom VP Investor Relations Andi Setiawan said Telkom provided a shareholder loan to Telkomsat to support investment plans for high through-put satellite or HTS satellite development.

This satellite procurement plan is carried out to increase the capacity of the national satellite-based on HTS technology to complete the Telkom Group portfolio.

This is to strengthen the digital connectivity infrastructure to make it more competitive to meet the needs of the Indonesian satellite market which is estimated to be high in the future.

“This investment in satellite development is expected to strengthen Telkomsat’s leadership in the satellite industry and increase Telkomsat’s dominance and market share in the satellite business in Indonesia,” he said.

According to the plan, the funding will be done through Telkomsat’s 50 percent equity and 50 percent loan, with most of the loans coming from shareholders and some from third parties.

“The construction of the satellite is estimated to require funds of approximately Rp. 3.8 trillion. Of the total needs, around Rp. 1.2 trillion is planned in the form of a shareholder loan from Telkom with gradual payments, adjusted to the terms of payment to satellite contractor partners,” Andi said in information disclosure. Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), Wednesday (6/4/2022).

He continued, the shareholder loans that have been made include, among others, November and December 2021, as well as March 2022, with a total amount of Rp 750 billion.

The distribution of the shareholder loan in the next stage will adjust to the development of satellite development.

Furthermore, the construction and launch of the satellite are estimated to take up to 3 years, and the satellite is expected to start operating in 2024.
