Indonesia will launch a domestically made electric car. The plan is that the car with the brand name Hyundai Ioniq 5 will be launched to the general public at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) which will begin on Thursday (31/3).

This news was conveyed by Hyundai Motors Indonesia through a launch invitation sent to the media.

“Hyundai Motors Indonesia presents the launch of the first electric car produced in Indonesia, the Ioniq 5 at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2022,” wrote HMI.

For information, the Ioniq 5 is an electric car assembled at the Hyundai factory in Bekasi, West Java. This factory has also given birth to Hyundai’s first locally produced car, the Creta.

The launch of Indonesia’s first electric car will be attended by the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo.

At that moment, Jokowi said that the presence of the Ioniq 5 was eagerly awaited because he was waiting for a massive transition from fossil fuel cars to environmentally friendly electric cars.

“Hyundai will launch the Ioniq 5 electric car, this car is the first electric car made in Indonesia that meets Indonesia’s needs and exports,” said Jokowi, on Wednesday (16/3).

The Ioniq 5 itself is Hyundai’s third electric car to be marketed in Indonesia after the Kona Electric and Ioniq. But the difference is the Ioniq 5 which was produced for the first time in Indonesia.

Although it has been announced since mid-March, so far the official price of the Ioniq 5 has not been announced.

According to data on the NJKB website managed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, there are registered two variants of the Ioniq 5, namely AWD AT and 2WD AT with different prices.

The Ioniq 5 EV AWD AT is recorded to have a value of IDR 473 million, while the Ioniq 5 EV 2WD AT is IDR 450 million.

It should be understood, the data from the NJKB website is the price of an off-the-road car, which means that it has not been burdened with taxes and several other factors to get the selling price to consumers in Indonesia.

As an illustration, in the United States, the price of the Ioniq 5 reaches IDR 740 million.

The Ioniq 5 is Hyundai’s first car designed with the Hyundai Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). This means the design of this car was completely created from scratch as an electric car.

This car is 4.6 meters long, 1.89 meters wide, 1.605 meters high, and has a wheelbase of 3 meters. It weighs 2,370 kilograms, while the storage capacity can carry up to 527 liters.

Furthermore, this car can be driven up to a maximum speed of 185 km per hour. Then this car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km per hour in 8.5 seconds.

In addition, the Ioniq 5 is equipped with 350 kW fast charging and is claimed to be able to charge from 10 to 80 percent in 18 minutes.

Then this car is claimed to only need to charge the vehicle for five minutes to get a distance of 100 kilometers.
