Borobudur is preparing for a spectacular night. On October 7, 2025, the Borobudur Supermoon will officially take place, promising a blend of culture, art, and a rare chance to enjoy the temple under the moonlight.

Magelang Regent Grengseng Pamuji confirmed the schedule, assuring that the event would go ahead as planned after being postponed last month.

“Tomorrow, October 7, and it’s confirmed that our friends from Gianyar (Bali) will also be present at Borobudur Super Moon,” he told reporters during an inspection in Secang, as quoted by detiktravel on Tuesday (September 30, 2025).

The delay, he explained, was necessary. “Yes, yesterday (the event was postponed) because we all knew we had to anticipate the situation. The overall condition in Indonesia, in almost all cities, was not good (due to riots and protests). So, we delayed it for a month. Alhamdulillah, now the political and security situation has improved, and hopefully, this will also help drive the economy in the Borobudur area,” he added.

Grengseng highlighted that Borobudur Supermoon is not just about the view, but also about opportunities. Local businesses, MSMEs, homestays, and artists are all expected to take part.

“There will be economic space, with MSMEs, homestays, and all those who can take part. Artists will also be involved. And it’s also about collaboration between tourist destinations, like between Magelang Regency and Gianyar. Perhaps in the coming months (November), with other regencies as well,” he said.

The plan is ambitious. Grengseng revealed that Borobudur Supermoon will be held every full moon, opening new ways to experience the temple. “Yes, every month. So, we can see Borobudur not only in the daytime, but also at night, in the morning, and in the evening. It depends on the full moon. The point is, every full moon,” he explained.

With art, culture, and economic collaboration woven together, Borobudur Supermoon is set to become more than just an event. It’s a celebration of heritage, a boost for local communities, and a fresh reason for travelers to return to Borobudur month after month.
