Labuan Bajo has cemented its reputation as one of Indonesia’s most beloved tourist destinations. This status was underscored in 2024 when 30 cruise ships and 12 yachts brought tens of thousands of visitors and crew members to Komodo National Park in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). These ships arrived from various parts of the world, making the year a significant milestone for tourism in the region.
“A total of 30,276 passengers and crew,” said Jaya Mahendra, Head of Immigration Office Class II TPI Labuan Bajo, on Monday (January 13, 2025).
Jaya explained that most international tourists arriving on these cruises and yachts came from five countries: the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Germany. Cruise ships anchored in the pristine waters of Komodo National Park, offering passengers a chance to immerse themselves in the area’s natural wonders.
Tourists arriving on cruise ships often seize the opportunity to explore the stunning destinations around Labuan Bajo, with the iconic Komodo dragons being a major highlight. On the other hand, yacht travelers tend to enjoy a more leisurely stay, engaging in activities across the marine landscapes of Labuan Bajo and the Komodo National Park.

“Typically, cruise ships remain docked for just one day at Komodo National Park,” Jaya noted. “In contrast, yachts can stay for up to a week, allowing their passengers to fully enjoy the surrounding attractions.”
To ensure smooth operations, the Labuan Bajo Immigration Office has implemented rigorous immigration checks aboard the vessels. These inspections include passport verification, visa checks, and biometric data recording. Jaya emphasized that no immigration violations were detected during the year.
“There were no immigration violations,” Jaya confirmed.
This influx of visitors highlights Labuan Bajo’s growing appeal and the vital role it plays in Indonesia’s tourism landscape. With its breathtaking views, unique wildlife, and world-class marine attractions, the destination continues to draw adventurers and nature enthusiasts from across the globe.
