Jakarta is on high alert as heavy rainfall continues to drench the city, raising concerns over potential flooding. The Jakarta Provincial Government has issued an early warning following forecasts predicting extreme weather and intense downpours between March 11 and March 20, 2025.
“If rainfall exceeds 150 mm per day, flooding is likely to occur,” stated the Jakarta Provincial Government via its official Instagram account, @dkijakarta, on Monday (March 10, 2025).
Authorities have taken preventive steps to minimize the impact, particularly the risk of flooding. These measures include weather modification efforts, river normalization, routine dredging of waterways and reservoirs, and medium-term projects like excavation and diversion channels.
“The Jakarta Provincial Government will continue working on various measures to anticipate the impact of extreme weather and minimize flood risks,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has also issued a warning. BNPB Head, Lieutenant General TNI Suharyanto, stated that heavy rainfall is expected to persist from March 10 to March 20, 2025. To counter its effects, authorities will conduct ongoing Weather Modification Operations (OMC) to reduce excessive rainfall and prevent severe flooding and landslides.
“This coordinated OMC effort aims to lower precipitation levels in various regions, with the hope of preventing more severe flooding,” Suharyanto stated in an official release.
Aside from government actions, Suharyanto reminded residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions. He emphasized the importance of turning off electricity during floods to avoid the risk of electric shocks caused by short circuits or power surges in submerged areas.
With Jakarta bracing for more heavy rains, authorities and residents must remain vigilant to minimize damage and ensure public safety.
