The Indonesian government added one more type of vaccine to be used as a third dose vaccine or booster vaccine. Moreover, the Food and Drug Administration (POM) has also issued an Emergency Use of Authorization (EUA) permit for the Sinopharm vaccine as a booster vaccine.

A spokesperson for the Covid-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito explained on Wednesday (9/2/2022), “This makes it (the Sinopharm vaccine) the sixth vaccine recommended as a booster in Indonesia after the determination of CoronaVac/Sinovac, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Moderna. , and Zifivax.”

Regarding the latest vaccination coverage data, as of February 7, 2022, the first vaccination has reached approximately 186 million doses, 131 million doses were injected for the second dose, and 5 million doses were injected for the third or booster dose.

Wiku explained the reason behind the addition of this type of vaccine for the booster. According to him, the addition of this type of vaccine is done to speed up the vaccination process in Indonesia. The main goal is to immediately create community immunity that has been formed since the first and second doses of vaccination.

He said, “We urge people who have not received the booster vaccine as soon as possible to check the eligibility status of the PeduliLindung application and get the vaccine at the nearest health facility.”

Head of BPOM Penny K Lukito in a written statement, Wednesday, February 2, 2022, explained, “BPOM has evaluated the efficacy and safety aspects referring to the standard for the Sinopharm vaccine as a homologous booster dose.”

Sinopharm has also been shown to be effective in terms of immunogenicity. The increase in the humoral immune response for the measurement parameters of neutralizing antibody and anti-immunoglobulin G (IgG) was 8.4 times and 8 times, respectively, compared to before giving the booster.
