To support efforts to shift energy to New and Renewable Energy (EBT), Indonesia cooperates with Singapore in the utilization of Clean Water Supply Technology.

In a meeting between the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto and Singapore’s Minister of National Development Desmond Lee on Wednesday (23/3/2022), Lee emphasized the importance of Indonesia’s NRE export plan to Singapore.

“In addition to reducing carbon emissions, it can also provide green jobs,” said Lee citing a press release, Thursday (24/3/2022).

During the meeting, the two ministers also exchanged ideas about renewable energy, particularly in the use of clean water supply technology.

Lee said that Indonesia must learn to treat river water as an alternative to a clean water supply. This is because when using seawater desalination, or converting seawater into freshwater, requires a large number of funds.

The steps taken by Indonesia to learn how to process clean water supply to Singapore is a step that is right on target. This is because Singapore is a developed country that already has a way to meet the clean water supply in its country.

Furthermore, apart from desalination, other methods used by the country to obtain clean water include treating wastewater with NEWater, utilizing local water infiltration, and importing clean water from Malaysia.

Furthermore, Indonesia, based on data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, has the potential to produce up to 418 GW of EBT, which comes from water, geothermal, wind, and solar resources.

With this huge natural potential, Indonesia’s opportunity to become a renewable energy country is very wide open. The energy that will be obtained from nature, in addition to protecting the environment, can also meet the daily needs of the Indonesian people.
