Jakarta is once again preparing to host one of the largest cultural events that brings Japan closer to Indonesia. The Jakarta Japan Matsuri or JJM 2025 will mark its 15th celebration on September 27–28 at Plaza Taman Timur GBK Senayan, carrying the theme “Always Together.” The festival will showcase the depth of friendship and cultural exchange between the two nations.
One of the most anticipated innovations this year is the “Travelling Through Japan Zone.” Executive Committee Director General Hoshino Daisuke explained that the feature will use a stamp rally system. Visitors can collect stamps from 15 Japanese prefectures and cities, creating the feeling of touring Japan while in Jakarta.
“We will also expand the activity areas, including information on studying in Japan, scholarships, university introductions, and work experience. Familiar cultural experiences from both countries will also be offered, such as batik-making, wayang painting, calligraphy, ennichi games, and Japanese dialect introductions,” Daisuke said.
He also highlighted that the event will provide practical resources for those who plan to visit Japan. This includes Japanese language learning materials from the Japan Foundation and travel guides prepared by JNTO. For sports enthusiasts, JJM 2025 will feature football experiences with J-League club representatives from Shonan Bellmare and Nagoya Grampus, along with opportunities to try baseball and badminton.

Food is always a highlight at the festival. This year, visitors can enjoy a mix of Japanese and Indonesian culinary delights. At the same time, cultural stages will present a blend of both traditions. Japanese festival elements like mikoshi, taiko drumming, yosakoi, and eisha will meet Indonesia’s rich heritage through traditional dances and angklung performances.
“As you watch the cultural performances, pay close attention to each performer. You will see Indonesians presenting traditional Japanese culture, while Japanese performers bring Indonesian traditions to life,” Daisuke emphasized.
The main stage will feature some of the most awaited acts. On Saturday night, JKT48, Dita, and Serena will perform, while Sunday night brings Mocca collaborating with Hiroaki Kato, followed by the return of Matsuri Night, a program that drew strong attention last year.
Adding to the excitement, the festival will also bring a Tokusatsu segment featuring Kamen Rider, offering entertainment for both children and adults. With stronger participation from Japanese regional booths, JJM 2025 promises to deliver an even more authentic festival experience that blends food, culture, art, and community.
