The government of Indonesia is pushing forward with the rapid development of its new capital, Nusantara (IKN), in East Kalimantan. In a significant milestone, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has started working from the presidential office in IKN for the first time today, July 29, 2024. He will be conducting his official duties there for three days, marking a historic moment in the establishment of the new capital.
Accompanied by First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo, President Jokowi is staying at the presidential office in Nusantara. This visit underscores the progress being made in the development of essential facilities within the new capital.
The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) recently announced the completion of the final installation of the Garuda blades at the Presidential Office in IKN Nusantara. In total, 4,650 blades have been installed, symbolizing the progress and commitment to the project.
“The final and highest blade on the West Wing of the Garuda Enclosure has been installed,” stated Minister of PUPR Basuki Hadimuljono. This milestone was also witnessed by Nyoman Nuarta, the designer of the copper blades forming the Garuda Wings. This accomplishment marks a crucial step towards completing the Presidential Office building in the Core Government Center Area (KIPP) of IKN.
President Jokowi’s decision to work from the new office signifies the operational readiness of the facilities. “Tomorrow, he will be working at the Presidential Office in Nusantara,” confirmed Yusuf Permana, Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media of the Presidential Secretariat, to reporters on Sunday, July 28, 2024.

Jokowi’s presence in IKN is a testament to the project’s progress. “I want to see it for myself. I’ve been informed that water is available, electricity is connected, the room is ready, and the bed is there, so I can sleep,” Jokowi told reporters, expressing his satisfaction with the facilities.
He will be working from the Presidential Office in Nusantara for three days, emphasizing the government’s dedication to ensuring the new capital’s infrastructure is fully operational. The President’s stay at the IKN Palace highlights the commitment to making Nusantara a functional and thriving center of government.
This event follows the installation of the first blade by President Jokowi on September 17, 2023, marking the beginning of the final phase of construction. The swift progress is aimed at completing the necessary facilities to support the government’s operations in the new capital.
The relocation to IKN represents a significant move towards decentralizing the nation’s administrative functions from Jakarta, addressing overpopulation, and promoting economic development in other regions. With the President’s active involvement and oversight, the development of Nusantara is set to progress steadily, paving the way for a new era in Indonesia’s governance and infrastructure.
