Ahead of Ramadan, a significant increase of Indonesian Railway passengers is seen. According to PT KAI (Persero), the average volume of train passengers consisting of long-distance trains and local trains on March 15-21 March 2022 reached 123,367 customers per day.

This figure increased by 16.4 percent compared to the previous week, which was 105,940 customers per day

KAI’s VP of Public Relations Joni Martinus explained, “There was an increase of 16.4 percent compared to the previous week, namely March 8-14, where KAI served as many as 105,940 customers per day.”

Although the number of KAI passengers continues to increase, the Company is currently still waiting for the government’s decision on when it will start selling tickets for the Lebaran period this year.

For now, the Ministry of Transportation has not issued a regulation regarding the 2022 Eid homecoming because it is still waiting for provisions from the Covid-19 Handling Task Force.

“Welcoming the entry of Ramadan, KAI is still waiting for further decisions from the government regarding the implementation of Eid transportation,” he said.

“KAI will immediately inform regarding ticket sales and the requirements while waiting for further information from the government,” he said

Thus, if the government later allows Lebaran homecoming to be held, then KAI only needs to prepare the necessary additional facilities and personnel.

Furthermore, until now the company is still serving the sale of regular train tickets that can be purchased by the public on H-30 through the KAI Access application, KAI website, counters, and designated external channels.

Previously, The government has waived the mandatory requirement of the rapid test antigen/RT-PCR for travelers who use the rail mode of transportation. However, some rules must be obeyed by passengers as a condition for boarding the train.

Passengers who are not required to show a PCR or antigen test are only passengers who have been vaccinated against the second (complete) or third (booster) dose. The regulation takes effect from Wednesday (9/3/2022).

The regulation adapts to the issuance of the Ministry of Transportation’s SE Number 25 of 2022 concerning Guidelines for the Implementation of Domestic Travel by Rail Transportation during the Covid-19 Pandemic Period on March 8, 2022.
