Indonesia welcomed more than one million foreign tourists at the start of 2026, with Bali absorbing nearly half of the arrivals. Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded 1,014,397 international visitors entering the country through its main gateways in January 2026.
While the figure reflects strong interest in Indonesia as a destination, it marks a decline compared to the previous month. In December 2025, arrivals had reached 1,222,993 people. That means the January total fell 17.06% on a monthly basis. Still, compared to the same period last year, the trend is positive. In January 2025, Indonesia received 1,003,237 foreign visitors, making this year’s figure higher on an annual comparison.
“In January 2026, foreign tourist visits through main entry points reached 1,014,397 people, down 17.06% month-to-month. But on an annual basis, it rose 11%,” said BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics Ateng Hartono during a press conference on Monday (2/3/2026).
Visitors from Malaysia formed the largest group, contributing 150,500 arrivals or about 14.8% of the total foreign tourists. Australia followed closely with 145,900 visitors, accounting for 14.4%. China ranked next with 105,300 arrivals or 10.4%, while Singapore contributed 102,000 visitors, equivalent to 10.1%.
“The highest number of foreign visitors mainly came from Malaysia at 14.8%, followed by Australia at 14.4% and China at 10.4%,” Ateng added.
Despite Malaysia and Australia leading the list, both markets experienced declines over the past month. Malaysian arrivals dropped by 20.19%, while Australian visitors decreased by 5.65%. In contrast, China showed growth, with arrivals rising 11.31% month-to-month.
Looking at annual performance, Australian tourists increased slightly by 0.3%. Meanwhile, Malaysian and Chinese arrivals declined by 0.53% and 3.51%, respectively.

The latest data underline Bali’s continued dominance as Indonesia’s primary tourism hub, even as overall arrivals fluctuate from month to month.
