For Central Java, international travel just became simpler. A new direct flight now connects Semarang and Singapore, removing the need for transit and opening wider access to tourism, business, and investment.
Scoot Airlines officially launched its direct flight Semarang–Singapore service at Jenderal Ahmad Yani International Airport on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. The inaugural arrival touched down at 4:10 p.m. WIB, followed shortly by the first departure to Singapore at 4:55 p.m. WIB. The launch drew strong public interest from the very start.
The milestone event was attended by Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi, Pangdam IV/Diponegoro Major General TNI Achiruddin Darojat, General Manager of Jenderal Ahmad Yani Airport Sulistyo Yulianto, and Semarang Mayor Agustina Wilujeng Pramestuti. Their presence underscored the strategic importance of the new route for the province.
Early demand was immediately visible. Scoot reported an 80 percent load factor on the inaugural flight, signaling strong enthusiasm from travelers eager for a faster and more practical option to Singapore.
Governor Ahmad Luthfi said the new route expands Central Java’s international connectivity, following the opening of a direct Semarang–Kuala Lumpur flight in September 2025.
“This flight opens new opportunities for tourism, logistics, and the movement of people to and from Central Java,” he said, as quoted from the Central Java Provincial Government website. He added that Central Java and Singapore have long shared close ties, particularly in investment. Between 2021 and the third quarter of 2025, foreign direct investment from Singapore in Central Java surpassed Rp27 trillion.
With the launch of the direct flight, the provincial government expects investment inflows to grow further, alongside an increase in international tourist arrivals.

From the airport operator’s perspective, the new route also carries symbolic weight. General Manager of Ahmad Yani Airport Sulistyo Yulianto described it as a key moment in restoring Semarang’s status as an international airport. “The launch of this route confirms that Central Java is competitive on the regional aviation map and increasingly ready to connect to international networks,” he said.
For local residents, the benefits are immediate and tangible. Semarang resident Tan Sri Marlin shared how the direct route has simplified travel plans.
“It’s much easier now. There’s no need to transit in Jakarta anymore if you want to go to Singapore,” he said.
With shorter travel times and fewer logistical hurdles, the Semarang–Singapore route offers a more efficient way to move between the two destinations. Beyond convenience, it also opens the door to deeper cross-border collaboration in tourism, trade, and investment, strengthening Central Java’s position in the regional network.
